We had a very entertaining and interesting school assembly this week:
Special guest, Grace Bjarnason spoke to the students about her privilige of being selected an Olympic Torch Bearer. She explained the history and design behind the Olympic Torch and described her experience carrying it. After assembly Grace kindly visited elementary classrooms and let students get a close look at the torch.
The Junior Band performed their selection very well. They also played Happy Birthday to all students celebrating birthdays in January.
Our Junior Boys basketball team was introduced by Coach Blair. Students were encouraged to cheer them on during their first home game.
Mrs. Kentel reported 28 students have registered to participate in school curling- excellent interest!
Ms. Hollinger and Mrs. Clarke explained a fitness challenge that the school will participate in. Mrs. Wirl is the school In-Motion coordinator.
Mrs. Clarke reported excellent turnout for the new after school Archery Program.
Constable Al Dmytryshyn spoke to all the students about incidents of harassment that have been taking place within the school and the community. He gave suggestions as to how victims of harassment may find help. After dismissing the Gr. 1-5 students, Constable Al explained the seriousness of various drug charges. He explained some of the methods the RCMP use to can elimiate drugs in the school: reporting to Crime Stoppers, use of drug-sniffing dogs, and sharing of information between the school and RCMP.
